about rinjani

The three-day Senaru–Sembalun trek is considered one of the best in South East Asia.

Part of the famous ring of fire, Gunung Rinjani holds spiritual significance for local people. Within the mountain sits Segara Anak, a crescent-shaped sulfur lake 600 meters below the crater rim, with Mt. Baru rising from its waters. Mt Rinjani lies within Gunung Rinjani National Park — 41,330 hectares inside the Wallacea bio-geographical transition zone, established in 1997.

What Trekkers Say About Their Rinjani Journey

Real stories from trekkers who felt the cold summit wind and the warmth of Segara Anak at dawn.

I closed my laptop on Friday. By Sunday sunrise I was on Rinjani's summit with tears in my eyes. The cold wind, the crater lake far below — I finally understood why they call this mountain sacred.

Sarah Mitchell Summit Trekker

Segara Anak at dawn changed something in me. I could smell pine forest, feel warmth from the hot springs, and see stars reflected in the lake. It felt like the mountain was breathing with me.

Budi Santoso Summit Trekker

The final push in darkness, then light exploding over the ocean — I still get goosebumps. This site made me feel the trail before I even laced my boots.
